Joined Vanemuine Theatre in 2024

Jevgeni Grib is the Ballet Director of Vanemuine Theatre since August 2024. He graduated from Tallinn private ballet school “Fouetté” (2001) and the Tallinn Ballet School (2010, under the instruction of Enn Suve). In 2010–2013, he worked as a ballet artist at the Estonian National Opera, in 2014–2020 as a ballet soloist, and in 2020–2024 as a principal dancer. In 2013–2014, he was a soloist with the Boris Eifman State Academic Ballet Theatre of St. Petersburg.

Grib’s repertoire includes roles such as Amedeo Modigliani – Edur/Aints’s Modigliani – The Cursed Artist, Menshikov and Peter I – Edur/Aints’s Catherine I, Alan – Meckler/Ochoa/Salem’s A Streetcar Named Desire, Hilarion – Adam’s Giselle, the Farmhand and the Devil – Kesler/Tubin’s The Goblin, the Prince – Prokofiev’s Cinderella, Hans – Kesler’s Undine, Gremin – Cranko’s Onegin, Rothbart – Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, the Witch and the Huntsman – Tchaikovsky’s Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs, Soloist of “Waltz of the Flowers” – Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, the Cavalier – MacMillan’s Manon, the Soloist – MacMillan’s Song of the Earth, Conrad – Martinez/Adam’s Le Corsaire, Dietz von Egloff – Härm/Mahler’s Evening Houses, the Soloist – Lifar’s Suite en blanc, and others (all at the Estonian National Opera). Additionally, he has danced leading roles in Boris Eifman’s ballets Onegin, Requiem, and Red Giselle.

Grib’s work as a choreographer includes several short ballets, among them Keep a Light in the Window (Sumera/Lemba/Pushkin 2018), Picasso (Bechet/Richter/Gershwin/Rachmaninoff/Debussy 2019), and Tango (Piazzolla/Gardel/Zimmer/Powell/Bach 2019), all premiered at the Estonian National Opera, as well as the short ballet Flesh (Massenet/Jóhannsson/Richter/Schubert 2022) created in collaboration with Jack Traylen for the Narva Opera Days. At the Vanemuine Theatre, Grib has staged the short ballet Metamorphoses (Sibelius/Bach/Beethoven/Richter/Vivaldi 2021) and the full-length ballet Ash White (Elgar/Holst 2023).
