The Vanemuine Symphony Orchestra presents a programme that bridges the musical languages and emotions of different eras. Contemporary Ukrainian works, like Victoria Poleva’s meditative and painfully beautiful “Bucha. Lacrimosa” (2022) and Myroslav Skoryk’s deeply expressive “Diptych” (1993), are heard alongside the poetic beauty of 19th-century opera and turn-of-the-century impressionism in the music of Ravel.
Barber’s “Adagio” and Delibes’s aria filled with sorrow, together with the gentle prayers of Verdi and Rombi, form a musical bridge from tragedy and mourning towards light and peace – revealing music’s power to heal, to comfort, and to reconnect us with hope and joy.
