Johannes Brahms’s A German Requiem, Op. 45, performed around All Souls’ Day, is a large-scale choral work that offers solace and a sense of connection. Written for choir and orchestra, its music offers a deeply moving spiritual experience to listeners of all backgrounds. Unlike the traditional Latin Requiem, Brahms based his work on German biblical texts, seeking consolation, inner peace and profound human compassion.
