Dear people of Saaremaa and guests of Saaremaa,

Vanemuine’s first cultural landing on Saaremaa in January 2025 clearly demonstrated how culture can build a strong bridge between the mainland and the island. Eight performances and concerts and more than 3,000 visitors are the visible result of this undertaking. Yet more important than the numbers is the way the audience of Saaremaa welcomed us — with such warmth, enthusiasm, hospitality, and engagement that the kilometers between the mainland and the island were easily forgotten.

As the national theatre, Vanemuine’s mission is to offer fresh cultural energy and unforgettable experiences in drama, ballet, and music not only in Tartu but throughout Estonia. We are always delighted to welcome the people of Saaremaa to Tartu, but it is just as great a pleasure for us to visit again ourselves and sail across the sea on the waves of culture. Without you, dear Saaremaa audience, our first meeting would not have created such a ripple that now carries forward and brings us back to you again. Thank you very much!
