The spring season of the Vanemuine Symphony Orchestra will be concluded by the works of Jean Sibelius and Richard Strauss, the grand masters of late romanticism and early modernism. Jean Sibelius’s lyrical Violin Concerto was completed at a time when the composer broke off from the romantic style in search for a new, distinctly Finnish musical language. Richard Strauss’s Alpine Symphony depicts experiences which characterise a single eleven-hour day spent climbing an Alpine mountain peak.
