Till the Stars Come Down is a bitterly funny play about an English working-class family – three sisters and those closest to them. It is the youngest sister’s wedding day, which above all means that everyone is now inevitably moving on with their lives, and an unspoken fear of losing one another hangs in the air – a kind of apocalyptic premonition. But everyone smiles and cracks jokes.
This festive day brings to the surface everything that they have thus far successfully concealed: old wounds, unfulfilled hopes, love that has hardened into harshness because they know no other way, and the fear of becoming invisible in a world that changes faster than they can keep pace.
What is the value of family when the sense of security disappears? Who is there for me when the world is about to end?
A story that is absurd to the point of tears, yet painfully honest and at the same time deeply compassionate, about the need to belong, about loyalty, and about the fragile, yet inevitable, necessity for one another.
