Ensemble V Debut Concert “First Steps”

What do people from Estonia, Italy, Costa Rica, South Korea and Germany have in common?
They are vibrant, virtuous, vivid, versatile, verified, victorious, and very vashionable people. And this night you will listen to them.

You need to imagine the history of V like this:
Whilst some at the first meeting of V try to practice their parts, others try to talk to each other, everyone in their own native language, because of the noise level of some instruments, there might even be shouting involved, but also whispering when one of the members of V tries out a beautiful and heartfelt phrase. Once the wild trying out and tuning is done, they start to look through everyone’s favourite quintet pieces to get an impression of each other’s instruments and their compatibility. They try out Italian music, Estonian music, Czech music, Hungarian music, French music, and Danish music. In the end, they finally agree on a short little Austrian piece of music, which they even manage to play in full length, because they finally found their common musical language and order.
That’s how you will have to imagine it.
Because it actually was totally different, V?

Program:
Luciano Berio, György Ligeti, Steve Reich, Erkki-Sven Tüür, Carl Nielsen, Anton Reicha, Joseph Haydn

On stage — Ensemble V:
Cinmaya Ferrara (clarinet), Stefan Kerstan (bassoon), Kristin Müürsepp (flute), JaeWook Sung (horn), Leonardo Cubillo (oboe), Gustavo Pedro (dancer)

Who Created This Song?

The concert program unfolds like a springtime journey through Europe’s greening mountains and valleys. Musically, it draws inspiration from folk songs and traditions, ranging from fiery Gypsy tunes to dreamlike melodies from the British Isles. Along the way, we encounter classical German folk songs, the passionate colors of Italy, and Hungarian heritage. Yet at the heart of this musical voyage lie Mart Saar’s folk song arrangements, which have been heard all too rarely on our concert stages in recent years.

Program includes: Dvořák, Brahms, Mahler, Wolf, Ravel, Fauré, Saar, Bartók, Britten and others.

Performers Ursula Roomere (soprano), Stefano Chiurchiù (piano)
